Greeting cards with an edge

Greeting cards with an edge

"At the heart of every great family is a mother whose words speak a language of love": that's a pretty nice greeting, but some say polite, traditional greeting cards are becoming obsolete. They say they're getting snarkier and wittier and more mobile.

With the holidays approaching people are looking for unique, quick ways to tell their friends and loved ones how they feel.

How about this one? "This probably isn't going to happen considering your family, but we hope you have a wonderful, joyous holiday season." that zinger is from uncooked, a quippy greeting and e-card company that packs an unapologetic punch.

Uncooked's creators -- husband and wife Nat and Armand Prisco -- say they're just putting things you would normally say to your loved ones on a card. That is, if you have really dysfunctional relationships.

"We always get people telling us this is what I say to my girlfriend all the time, or I always tell my boyfriend this, so I feel like our cards are kind of speaking the same language that a lot of people talk to each other in daily conversation," Nat says.

Want another unique way to say "I love you" in a snap? Now there's an app for that. Take a photo, customize your card, and for around $2.50 your loved one will get a paper postcard delivered to their front door with your mug on it.

"We want to be in the memory business and for us we're really excited about that sweet spot between sort of that mobile and physical so today we've got a great product like postcards where you can take an amazing image and send it to someone and you're not tethered to a computer," said Josh Brooks, the CEO and founder of Postcards on the Run.

No matter which way you choose to say "I love you," hopefully there will be no hurt feelings.

Six people were indicted Wednesday in an international ring that managed to take over more than 1,000 StubHub users' accounts and fraudulently buy tickets to such prime events as Jay-Z and Elton John concerts, a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox game and Broadway shows like "The Book of Mormon," the Manhattan district attorney said. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said the thieves would then resell the tickets and split up the proceeds.
