Convention Center earns LEED gold status

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs announced that the Orange County Convention Center is now the largest building in the nation to receive LEED "Gold" status.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and there are many things a building has to feature in order to be considered LEED certified.  Mayor Jacobs says reaching that plateau can get the County more business,

"They want to go to communities that recognize how important it is to preserve our natural resources, not to unnecessarily pollute the environment. So it will also help us in booking more conventions."

The Convention Center has done things like installing solar panels on the roof, eco-friendly landscaping throughout, and the Center recycles millions of gallons of trash each year.
