Friends And Family Sending Cards To Kid Battling Rare Disorder

Nick is an 11-year old boy who likes wrestling and horseback riding. However, his hobbies have taken a backseat due to an unknown disorder of the mitochondria.

Nick is currently fighting the unknown illness in St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. He is in weak spirits, so neighbors and friends have started a card campaign to give his spirits a boost and let him know that they're all fighting this disease with him. In fact, they want to encourage everyone to send Nick cards, drawings, or notes to tell Nick that he's got people on his side. This is just part of neighbors' efforts. Every year neighbors and friends also throw a Nickels For Nicky Dollar Dog Dinner to raise funds for the Energy For Life mitochondria walk.

Despite the severity of Nick's illness, his family is very upbeat. According to neighbors and friends, the family is very pleasant and wouldn't hesitate to help others despite their situation. His dad Ken is a Philadelphia cop and his mom, Gina, is a Special Instructor for kids with special needs.

All cards should be addressed to Nickels For Nicky c/o 3868 Kipling Pl., Philadelphia, PA 19154.
