MESA, Ariz. -

Mesa Police have arrested a day care employee on suspicion of child abuse. Officers say they found a female toddler tied to a bed in the child care center.

Police were called to Cholla Montessori Preschool at University Drive and Gilbert Road Thursday afternoon on reports of child abuse.

The 2-year-old child was rescued and turned over to the care of her parents. No medical attention was necessary.

Officers said she was wrapped up in a blanket so tight she couldn't move. She was sweating, and had one arm pinned behind her back.

"A very serious incident, where you've got somebody that small that is restrained in a way that they're not free to move about. Obviously if a child were to spit up or choke or something of that nature you could end up with potential injury or death," said Det. Steve Berry.

Police interviewed employees and took Lauren Miller, 22, into custody. She was questioned at the police station and booked into jail on 2 counts of child abuse and 2 counts of unlawful imprisonment.

Miller was ordered held on $2,700 bond. A status conference for Miller's case is scheduled for Oct. 24 with a preliminary hearing four days later.

It's not clear if any other children were abused. The investigation is ongoing.
