Home surveillance cameras catch driveway burglary

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Surveillance video taken from Terri Hayes' Daytona Beach home show exactly what happened last Tuesday, right after she unloaded her car and noticed her purse was missing.

"Got out of the car and probably grabbed you know to or three bags of groceries on each arm and I'm immediately going inside to let my puppy out," Hayes said.

During the short time she was in the house, the video shoes a car pull up in her driveway right behind her car, the suspect runs up, peaks inside, and takes her purse on the passenger seat, then hops back in the car which speeds off.

"He just opened this door, and grabbed my pocketbook and he was gone within a matter of 10 to 15 seconds," Hayes said.

Daytona Beach Police also caught the man on surveillance video at a nearby convenience store.

"I really just felt that my personal self was just violated and invaded," Hayes said.

Hayes says the purse contained credit cards, a social security card, cash and  dear photos – she says it's a lesson learned the hard way.

"It really makes you more aware and it's less learned, expensive lessons learned but it's something you'll never forget and you will always watch," Hayes said.

Fortunately the home's surveillance cameras which they just recently installed were rolling, now police and the victim hope someone can identify the suspect.

"I'll never recover my goods, but I think he needs to be punished for his crime," Hayes said.

Anyone with information on the suspect should call the Daytona Beach Police Department.
