Runners and spectators prepare for Detroit marathon

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -
Sunday the city of Detroit will host an estimated 27,223 runners for the 2013 Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank Marathon. Participants include 14,009 doing the half-marathon and 5,992 who are registered to run the full marathon.
On Saturday runners picked up their registration packets at Cobo Center and did a bit of shopping. Items for sale included shirts, jackets and decals displaying the marathon's logo. Thousands of spectators will line the route in both Detroit and Windsor.
Security will be tight during the race and participants are being asked not to bring or wear backpacks or duffle bags to the event. Any bags or backpacks will be subject to search by security personnel.
Additional security measures have been added to the course. and at the event start line on Fort Street, only participants with a runners' bib will be allowed to enter the corrals. Those attending the event are being encouraged to report any suspicious activity or information to the nearest event security personnel or by calling 911.
If you're planning on attending the race there are 12 garages or lots near the start/finish line. It's strongly recommended to park outside the course route to make exiting easier. You're also advised to park before the streets close at 6:00 a.m.
