City sues to break Millennium Park restaurant deal

CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration says a former park district official under former Mayor Richard Daley improperly helped her lover win a 30-year deal to operate a restaurant in Millennium Park. The city is now suing to break the contract.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that when she was pregnant with Matthew O'Malley's child, Laura Foxgrover "unduly and unfairly influenced" the process that ended with O'Malley's investment group winning a deal to operate Park Grill.

The paper reports that in a deposition, Foxgrover said she recused herself from negotiations but didn't tell anyone about her relationship with O'Malley. The city says there's evidence - including copies of emails - showing Foxgrover did take part in the selection process. Foxgrover left the park district six years ago and married O'Malley.
