"Netflix has become equally as popular in the subscriber base in the U.S. and that's what happened today," he said. "Internationally HBO is vastly more popular."
Right now, shows are watched through users' video-game consoles, Apple TV, or Roku. Viewers don't have to be glued to the TV. They can watch on their cell phone and tablet, too. It costs $8 a month. For that reason, some people are doing away with cable all together and ditching HBO.
Experts say the original programming such as "Arrested Development" and "House of Cards" sets Netflix's service apart. Netflix has been in talks with U.S. cable providers, but it could be a few years before we see it on a cable menu.
