Zendaya: I Just Try To Stay Updated

Posted: Updated:

Zendaya has a lot going on. Besides her show "Shake It Up" on the Disney Channel, she's got a new book and CD out and she'll also be performing at this weekend's 20th Annual Dream Halloween Event. She talked about those projects and stressed how important Saturday's event is to her.

"It's such a great cause like the fact that it's for something that affects children which is something that is very close to my heart...it's a Halloween bash...and it's for "Keep a Child Alive" and they've done so much work...they raise money for kids that suffer from HIV and AIDS."

Maria brought up all of the projects she has going on and asked how she makes time for events like this. Zendaya said for her, it's a no brainer.

"I'm a young person and I want my younger fans to see positive things..i want them to kinda grow up seeing someone doing, you know, having their career and doing all the things they love but also using some of their power for good stuff."

So who does Zendaya have to thank for having her priorities in order?

"I have good parents, that's what it is."

20th Annual Dream Halloween 2013

  • Keep a Child Alive is celebrating the 20th Annual Dream Halloween on Saturday October 26th at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Los Angeles.
  • Hollywood Records recording artist and Disney's "Shake It Up" star Zendaya will perform, as well as the amazing singer/songwriter Tori Kelly.
  • This year, Keep a Child Alive will honor HIV/AIDS activist Cristina Jade Peña with the charity's inaugural Joe Cristina Humanitarian Award.
  • Proceeds from Dream Halloween benefits Keep a Child Alive
  • Dream Halloween was created in 1994 by the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation (CAAF) and has since raised more than $16.2 million in support of children affected by HIV.
  • Dream Halloween will transform the Barker Hangar into a Halloween extravaganza featuring the legendary Trick-or-Treat Lane, live performances including a special show from Le Petit Cirque, a 3D Bat Cave housing the Batman Tumbler, a 40-foot Hot Wheels track, face painting by MAC artists and opportunities to take photos with character favorites.

Keep a Child Alive

  • Keep a Child Alive was co-founded in 2003 by Alicia Keys as an emergency response to the HIV epidemic, raising global awareness for the unmet, urgent need for HIV treatment in Sub Saharan Africa, and funding local community-based organizations to provide free, life-saving HIV treatment.
  • Ten years later, Keep a Child Alive works with 9 community-based partners in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa and India, bringing dignified treatment, care and support to children and their families.
  • The work of Keep a Child Alive has impacted the lives of over 300,000 children and families affected by HIV.
  • In 2012, 9.7 million people living with HIV had access to antiretroviral therapy in low and middle-income countries.  New infections among adults decreased by 50%, and among children by 52%, since 2001.
  • However, the same success is not being seen when we look at infected children.   Almost 70% of HIV positive children are STILL not getting treatment. And for these children, access to treatment is an urgent matter of life or death – without it 50% will die by the age of 2, and 80% by the age of 5.  This is an unacceptable situation, and why Keep a Child Alive continues to be as focused and determined now, as they were in 2003.

The 20th Annual Dream Halloween is happening this Saturday, October 26th at Barker Hanger in Santa Monica.
