ATLANTA -

All Hallow's Eve is nearly upon us and we have a few suggestions on app that will help make fun and the right type of scary.

Halloween apps are new and improved this year. There are apps out there to find haunted houses, stay away from certain houses and find out at what house your child might be. There are also apps to create spooky soundtracks and get into a better spirit of the season.

First, you have to get ready for the holiday and the Pumpkin Pal app can help with helping you with the biggest challenge of carving a pumpkin. The app allows you to create a design before you start to cut. Pumpkin Pal is available only for Apple devices. You can get it on iTunes for $3.99.

If you're planning to go out, why not try to brave a haunted house? There's an app to help you find the creepiest of fun houses near you. The Halloween Haunted House Finder will pinpoint the places as well as get you directions to them. You can download the app through the Google Play store.

Another way to get into the Halloween spirit is through a good ghost story. The app Creepy Tale gives you just that, creepy tales. You can download it for your Android devices.

Since Zombies are all the rage, we cannot just leave them out of this Halloween edition of Tech Check. How about Zombie Farm? It's one of the hottest games out for smartphones. It's sort of like Farmville, but with zombies. You can grow and harvest the zombies, then send them out to do your evil biddings, mostly in the farm fields. It is available for both Apple and Android devices.

And parents know that Halloween isn't all fun and games, but it should be for your children. That's why Verizon and many of the other major carriers have apps for tracking your children using their smartphones. Verizon's version is called Family Locator.

There is also a free version of an app called Life 360. It works by drawing a circle around a place on a map where your children should be. The app then notifies you when they enter and leave the circle. You can use if for school, home, friends' houses and other places they might frequent. The app is available for both Android and Apple devices and there is a premium version with more features available.

We hope those help you have a fun and safe trick or treat this year.

If you have a story about the loss of a device or if you have a suggestion for a future Tech Check segment leave a comment at facebook.com/DougEvansFOX5 or on Twitter at @DougEvansFOX5.
