Beating The Cowboys And Beyond

Beating The Cowboys And Beyond

Posted: Updated:

Maybe it's just something about the Cowboys. The last two times the Lions have played them, I've sat in the broadcast booth afterwards wondering "what just happened?"

2 years ago it was the Lions coming from 24 points down in the second half to win. That victory was one that helped propel them to the playoffs. It was the type of game that you carried in your back pocket and pulled out when you got in a tough spot.

Yesterday, same deal. The team pulled out an improbable, if not miraculous victory. Many things had to fall into place to give them a chance to win in the final minute. Then they did it. They made the plays. Big plays. Money plays. The kind of plays elite teams and elite players make.

So let's let this breathe for a second. The Lions got a big win. They are 5-3 at the midway point. They've beaten two very good teams in Chicago and Dallas.

Enough breathing, let's look ahead. I could look at the schedule but I won't. They're good enough to not worry about it. I've always believed that good teams win ten games and bad teams lose ten games. Never heard of a team that missed the playoffs and said, "hey, we'd of made it if our schedule was easier!"

No. This team has set the bar for the year. When they play to their capabilities, they have the pieces to play with anybody. So now it's about doing it. In years past we would say, "Well, the Lions can win if they do this, this, and this." Not anymore. It's simple. The Lions can beat anybody if they just play good football.

Times have changed and expectations should as well.

Enjoy the bye week. Based on what this team is capable of doing, we may be in for a fun ride. Wait, not "may", let's make it "should."
