STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -

A DeKalb County grandmother whose car and scooter were stolen is back on the move thanks to a generous FOX 5 viewer.

Thieves swiped Diane Jolly's car from the parking lot at the Druid Forest Condominiums last week. In the truck of the car was the mobility scooter the 72-year-old grandmother used to get around.

Stockbridge businessman Loren Pierce saw the story on FOX 5 and decided to give Jolly a replacement scooter.

"What struck a chord with me is she was more disappointed in missing her scooter than she was her car," Pierce said.

Knee, hip and back problems have left Jolly using a cane and virtually unable to walk long distances. She said the scooter gives her independence. She said she's thankful to be rolling again and said that her faith in mankind has been restored.

"Flabbergasted. Elated. Unbelievable. You just don't find people now days who are real heroes like Mr. Pierce," said Jolly.

Pierce said he hated that the crooks who stole Jolly's car gave the area a bad name.

"Atlanta is my hometown and I don't want people to think that's what the people of Atlanta are about," Pierce said.

DeKalb County police have no leads on who took Jolly's car.  It is a 1998 silver Honda Civic. Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
