4 arrested during child predator crack down Operation Safe Treat

Posted: Updated:

There are nearly 15,000 convicted sex offenders in the state, and a lot of them live here in the valley.

When your kids are knocking on strangers' doors, you definitely don't want them knocking on the door of a child predator.

U.S. Marshals were out on Halloween making sure that didn't happen. Trick-or-treaters make their way across the street, away from this house, where a registered sex offender lives.

Across the valley, deputies dropped in on more than 100 people convicted of sex crimes.

"It's usually a sex assault, it could be of a child, it could be rape, it could be one of many things," said Deputy U.S. Marshal Matt Hershey.

Marshals want to see a dark street and no light on the front porch.

Operation Safe Treat actually started at the beginning of October.

"We've for the past month put a priority on going after noncompliant sex offenders and get them off the street before tonight."

U.S. Marshals Service officials say a 24-year-old man wanted for three counts of sexual abuse of a child and sexual conduct of a minor was arrested at a home in Holbrook.

Two other arrests came in Maricopa County-- 43-year-old Steven Wayne Taylor was an unregistered sex offender and wanted for failing to appear for sentencing for a DUI hit-and-run accident and a 36-year-old woman who violated federal sex-offender registration laws.

Authorities say a 32-year-old man was arrested in Tucson for sexual exploitation of a minor for placing an online ad seeking sex with girls.

Federal authorities say 76 arrest warrants were cleared during the operation.

Arizona Department of Public Safety has a website you can go to at any time where you can type in your address and see if there's any registered sex offenders living in your neighborhood.
