SPRING HILL, Fla -- A Florida teacher has been suspended after she allegedly made a fourth grade Jehovah's Witness participate in the morning Pledge of Allegiance.

According The Tampa Bay Times, Anne Daigle-McDonald, a teacher with the Hernando County School District, forced the student to place his hand over his heart while the class recited the pledge on September 11th and the following day despite the boy having informed the teacher of his religion.

The district says the teacher violated policy as well as the student's First Amendment rights.

McDonald told school officials she knew of the child's religion, but not know that he couldn't recite the pledge.

The school district's superintendent suspended the teacher for five days without pay.
