MARIETTA, Ga. -

Being a rock star has its perks, but medical insurance isn't one of them. So, when local musician, Joey Huffman, found out he needed an expensive surgery, his friends pitched in to help him out by taking to the stage.

You will hear Huffman if you listen to an old Soul Aslyum albums. The Atlanta native is a keyboardist who has been playing since he was 10 years old.

His skills landed him gigs with several acts like Matchbox 20, Hank Williams Jr. and Miranda Lambert not to mention several gold and platinum records.

But it was a decade of excruciating headaches that put it all on pause. His doctors diagnosed his condition as trigeminal neuralgia. A tumor is pushing on a nerve behind his eye causing him extreme pain. It has confined the man who used to rock stages around the world to his bed.

The good news is that doctors can remove the tumor, but it will cost a considerable amount of money that he just doesn't have.

To help him out, his friends put together a benefit concert scheduled for November 8 at 120 Tavern and Music Hall in Marietta. That is located at 1440 Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30062. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the music starting at 8 p.m.

In addition to the concert, the event will have raffles, prizes and other fun activities.

All proceeds will go directly to helping Joey pay his medical bills.
