New Barbie Causes Controversy

New Barbie Causes Controversy

Posted: Updated:

Jennifer Lopez has been transformed into a Barbie Doll, but something's missing.

Mattell released two versions of the J.Lo Barbie: one, in a Red Carpet look modeled after the dress she wore to the Oscars in 2012, and the other, inspired by her sequined body suit from her "Dance Again" world tour.

However, critics say that the Barbie doesn't have Lopez's curves! In fact, a Facebook picture has been circulating around that's puts the Barbie's figure with pictures that show Lopez's figure.

Some of the comments add humor to the difference in proportions. Miya Hurley jokes, "When did J. Lo lose weight? lol!"

On the Huffington Post article, one comment even criticized the choice of Barbie. "Jennifer Lopez is not a good role model for girls," the person says.

FOX 29's Mike Jerrick also noticed that the Barbie does not have Lopez's signature behind. Watch the Good Day segment above to listen to the anchors discuss this new toy.

Barbie dolls aren't known to represent human proportions correctly. In fact, Rehabs.com, a mental health treatment search engine, did a study that showed that a Barbie's neck is twice as long and six inches thinner than the average woman. In addition, her waist-hip ratio is 0.56, meaning her hip is only 56 percent of her hip circumference! The average woman has a waist-hip ration of 0.80!

Mattel has been rolling out toys that have catered toward Latino families.
