Emory University's board of trustees elects chair

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Emory University's board of trustees has elected an alumnus to serve as its new chair.

The university said the board selected business executive John Morgan at its annual meeting Friday.

Morgan succeeds Ben F. Johnson III, who's retiring after serving as chair since 2000 and as a trustee since 1995. Johnson plans to remain active as an emeritus trustee.

Morgan has been an Emory trustee since 1996 and was elected a term trustee in 2000. Before he was elected a trustee, Morgan chaired Emory's board of visitors.

He graduated from Emory's Oxford College in 1967 and received his BBA from Emory in 1969.

Morgan says he will strive to make sure the 45 board of trustees members are communicating well so they can have uniformity in their ideas for governance.
