Gainesville police officers pull boy from burning home

GAINESVILLE, Ga. -

A boy has two police officers to thank for his life. Those Gainesville Police officers just happened to be driving by the child's home early Saturday and saw it was on fire.

Hidden in the smoke and darkness early Saturday morning was 7-year-old Jeremiah Williams. He was trapped in his bedroom with the roof of his home on fire and crumbling.

Danny Guerrero, the Jeremiah's uncle, tells FOX 5 News that all the all the members of the family were able to get out of the home okay except for Jeremiah. He says he was lost in the thick smoke.

The family standing outside the home watching helpless as the house burned around Jeremiah until two city police officer drove down Banks Road.

Officers Drew Reed and Steve Folkers say they heard the child screaming inside and used flashlights to guide Jeremiah to safety.

He was burned and scared, but was still conscious when the officers pulled him out of the danger. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where is still recovering.

Family members are just thankful the two officers went above and beyond their call of duty.
