Lee Brice: Music Evolves, But You Have To Preserve The Roots

Lee Brice is still riding high after his big win at the Country Music Awards earlier this month where he won Song of the Year for "I Drive Your Truck". Brice talked to Steve and Maria about how that song moved him on many levels, much like everyone who's heard it.

"I hear this song one day and it made me feel like I felt when I heard country music back growing up. Songs that kinda really lasted with me forever... the whole song has been such a blessing to me and I just had a feeling about it and I now realize it was a blessing to a lot of other people."

Maria asked Lee about how his music sounds compared to other country acts that are out there.

"Music always evolves and all music does and I think that's okay but you always have to revert back to roots...most of us really try to preserve that as a whole...but the stories, the melodies and things are always should be there."

Brice also talked about his weekend dates in Southern California and how he'll be done touring very soon because his wife's having a baby any minute now.

"She started complaining about some cramping and some stuff and I'm like baby hold on..I'll be home in a few days."

Once things are settled down a bit on the home front, Lee plans to go back on the road next year to promote a new album.

"Of course I got a baby coming so I've only got a couple weekends left and then we're out all year next year with Luke Bryan on tour and we're just gonna have a ball next year."

1) He is an American country music singer signed to Curb Records. His highest-charting single is "A Woman Like You", which reached No. 1 in April 2012.

2) He also had Billboard's Top Country Song of 2010 with "Love Like Crazy", the title track to his 2010 debut album; the song spent 56 weeks on the Hot Country Songs chart, peaking at No. 3 and setting a record for the longest run in the chart's history. His second album, Hard 2 Love, has produced No. 1 singles in "A Woman Like You" "Hard to Love," and "I Drive Your Truck."

3) Besides his own material, he has co-written singles for Garth Brooks, Adam Gregory, Eli Young Band and Tim McGraw.

4) As a child, Lee learned to play the piano in addition to singing in church and writing his own songs and also played the guitar. Lee entered and won three different talent contests in high school.

5) Lee attended Clemson University on a football scholarship. Lee played special teams as the long snapper, but, after an arm injury, Lee decided to focus on a country music career.

Lee is performing two sold out shows at the House Of Blues.
