Lee Brice: Music Evolves, But You Have To Preserve The Roots

Posted: Updated:

Lee Brice is still riding high after his big win at the Country Music Awards earlier this month where he won Song of the Year for "I Drive Your Truck". Brice talked to Steve and Maria about how that song moved him on many levels, much like everyone who's heard it.

"I hear this song one day and it made me feel like I felt when I heard country music back growing up. Songs that kinda really lasted with me forever... the whole song has been such a blessing to me and I just had a feeling about it and I now realize it was a blessing to a lot of other people."

Maria asked Lee about how his music sounds compared to other country acts that are out there.

"Music always evolves and all music does and I think that's okay but you always have to revert back to roots...most of us really try to preserve that as a whole...but the stories, the melodies and things are always should be there."

Brice also talked about his weekend dates in Southern California and how he'll be done touring very soon because his wife's having a baby any minute now.

"She started complaining about some cramping and some stuff and I'm like baby hold on..I'll be home in a few days."

Once things are settled down a bit on the home front, Lee plans to go back on the road next year to promote a new album.

"Of course I got a baby coming so I've only got a couple weekends left and then we're out all year next year with Luke Bryan on tour and we're just gonna have a ball next year."
