Titusville Police say they were forced to shoot and kill a man outside a sports bar early Sunday morning. Officers with the Titusville Police Department responded to the call at the Sports Ed Lounge at 4702 S. Washington Avenue at 1:38 a.m.
The management of the establishment reported a large crowd had gathered in the rear of the parking lot and started firing shots into the air. According to a witness account the officers arrived on scene, approached the vehicle and told everyone to get out of the vehicle one at a time.
The driver and one of the passengers cooperated with the police, however officer say when the third passenger got out of the car, he didn't do as officers advised. According to a witness, the man walked toward the officers, and didn't stop, so they tasered him.
Detectives said that's when the man, who has been identified as Jonathan Wilcher pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at officers. Officers reacted to the threat and then they started shooting.
The Wilcher was struck by gunfire and pronounced deceased on the scene. After further investigation, Titusville Police found out that the gun Wilcher had was reported stolen earlier this year in Cocoa Beach.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Brevard County Sheriff's Department and the Titusville Police Department are all investigation the shooting.
