A 13-year-old boy was hit and killed Sunday night in Orange County. Florida Highway Patrol Troopers said the teen was hit while crossing North Semoran Rd. and Old Cheney Highway. Troopers said a witness saw the whole thing, and followed the woman, who was identified as Jennifer Lee Herrington who was taken into custody at 2:17 a.m. Monday morning.
FHP troopers said the teen had just left a 7-Eleven and was in the crosswalk when a woman driving a silver Chevy Malibu ran the red light, hit the boy and took off.
The witness followed her for about a mile before she crashed into a white Mazda at the intersection of Semoran and Baldwin Park Street, investigators said. According to investigators the boy was airlifted to the hospital but he did not survive.
The driver, Herrington is being tested for drugs and alcohol. Troopers said she is cooperating with the investigation.
FHP troopers are also looking into a possible medical condition that caused her to act erratically.
