After being handed an offensive note instead of a tip, Dayna Morales has received nearly $3,000 in donations from around the world since her story appeared in the public spotlight earlier this month.

"I never really expected or imagined this could happen," Morales told NJ.com.

The Marine Corp Veteran was not given a tip on November 13th because the customer didn't like the fact that she was a Lesbian.

The restaurant where Morales works, Gallop Asian Bistro, has stood by her side, and the owner even pledged to match the donations.

Morales has since worked with the Wounded Warrior Project to coordinate a benefit event at the restaurant. She's also going to donate all the money she receives to help veterans wounded in the line of duty.

"I just want people to understand I never did this for the money," Morales told Good Morning America. "It was all about the message. It's 2013 and this shouldn't be happening to me or to anybody."
