Mail service suspended after pellet gun incident

Posted: Updated:

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) - Mail service to a Schenectady neighborhood has been suspended after a mail carrier was shot by a pellet gun.

Police tell the Daily Gazette of Schenectady that the pellet hit the carrier's mailbag and did no harm. But the incident prompted the Postal Service to suspend delivery to about 40 multiple-dwelling units while police investigate.

Police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Dearing said Monday that the incident happened on Van Vranken Avenue last Thursday. Residents and businesses whose mail service has been suspended can pick up their mail at the city post office.

Possession of pellet guns is prohibited by a city ordinance.
