NJ Airman Proposes To Girlfriend At Cheerleading Competition

Posted: Updated:
Medford, NJ -

A cheerleading competition serves as the backdrop for a surprise marriage proposal.

After a 7 month tour of duty in Germany, 24 year old Airman First Class Michael Rice is back home in Oaklyn, NJ for the Thanksgiving holiday but that's not what these smiles and hugs are all about.

Rice's girlfriend of three years, 20-year-old Cheerleader Coach Danica Phelan, was called to take center stage at her cheerleading competition to accept an award for her dedication to the sport.

In walks Rice, to hand-deliver a trophy in the form of a snow globe engraved with a special message asking a special question.

Wiping away the tears of joy our cameras were rolling as Phelan got surprise number two finding out her fiancé is no longer stationed abroad.

Rice got a transfer about two months ago it just got approved a month ago so he will be stationed in Dover, DE

No more face time chats and distant text messages, the excitement appeared overwhelming taking pictures exchanging hugs with family and friends and accepting the many words of congratulations.

This couple can begin the next chapter of their fairytale romance together in Dover Delaware with a ring on it.

A true love story everything worked out really well went really smooth. So everything was perfect.
