Red Wings alum hit the ice prepping for Winter Classic

(WJBK) -

It's going to be a Winter Classic unlike any other, and the Red Wings alumni are getting a head start on the competition.

"You want to represent yourself in good fashion. You know, really, I think that's why guys wanted to start skating just to get things going. Guys are going to have fun with it over the next month here. It's a great time of year, and for us to be involved in such a great rivalry in what I think is the biggest Winter Classic ever, with the way the Elitches are doing it at Comerica Park for a week and then moving up to the Big House, we're just very excited to be a part of this," says Kris Draper.

As for the recently retired Wings - they may have left their playing days behind but their competitive juices are very much alive.

"Joey slashed me in the arm today and I'm not wearing shoulder pads, so, he still doesn't realize how strong he is. It's a lot of fun," says Kirk Maltby.

While these guys are out they're have fun they also are out here to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"You don't want to lose, you never do. I think the competitive juices will take over. The game might slow down at the end, though. ... It will be fun," Chris Osgood promises.
