"Everybody was unified" the night Mandela spoke in Detroit

Nelson Mandela once visited Detroit and spoke to thousands at Tiger Stadium. Many still have vivid memories of that day.
    
The former press secretary to Mayor Coleman Young says "that was truly a night that everybody was unified."

Rev. Wendell Anthony also remembers that experience as the emcee for The Freedom Tour and says you could have cut the air with a knife during the moments when Mandela spoke.

Mandela visited Detroit in June of 1990. He came for a tour of an auto plant, to meet with city leaders and to speak at the stadium.

Mandela died at the age of 95 on Thursday, December 5.
