Catholic School Fires Teacher Who Obtained Gay Marriage License

Posted: Updated:

A gay Bucks County teacher says he has been fired after applying for a marriage license on Friday.

Michael Griffin, who lives in New Jersey, obtained a license there to marry his partner.

He was fired from Holy Ghost Preparatory School in Bensalem, where he taught French and Spanish for 12 years.

The president of the school, Father James McCloskey, released a statement that says: "This decision contradicts the terms of his teaching contract at our school, which requires all faculty and staff to follow the teachings of the church."

It goes on to say, "Regretfully, we informed Mr. Griffin that we have no choice, but to terminate his contract."

The move was effective immediately.
