West Bloomfield Township board asks governor to remove official

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. (AP) -

A township board in suburban Detroit plans to ask Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder to remove the community's elected treasurer from office.

The 5-2 vote on Monday night follows a months-long outside investigation requested by Oakland County's West Bloomfield Township of its Treasurer Teri Weingarden. A report on the investigation says there were numerous instances in the last year in which she failed to properly do her job.

During Monday's meeting, Weingarden said she hadn't been allowed to respond to the report's findings, which she described as "outrageous."

Weingarden was re-elected in November. She drew attention earlier this year for shutting down her office for a day, notifying residents with a sign posted at the township hall. People going Oct. 9 to her office found the handwritten note about the shutdown.
