Six people escaped or were rescued in a house fire that began Wednesday night.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but sources close to the investigation tell Fox 2's Maurielle Lue the fire started in the front of the house.

A neighbor says he heard, "My babies! My babies in the house! And I heard the screaming like they was in the Hell fire, and I came over here and I grabbed a brick and I busted a window and opened the door and fire shot out and the smoke," says 24-year-old Terrance Norris.

He ran in and out of the burning house to help get the people out, even carrying one child to safety before going back inside. In all, a grandmother, a mother, and four children aged 12, six, two and one years old escaped the house fire. The grandmother escaped the fire by jumping frmo a second-story window. Fire officials say she broke her leg.

"When I picked her up and brought her in the house, her ankle was probably as big as my head," Norris remembers.

Two of the children suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. They're being treated at DMC Children's Hospital in Detroit.

Thursday morning the American Red Cross, who is in contact with the family, surveyed the scene looking for anything the family can recover but the family seems to have lost everything.
