Marine pulls off surprise proposal at Red Wings' game

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

A marine from Northville returned home to surprise his family and propose to his girlfriend in front of thousands of Detroit Red Wings' fans.

US Marine Lance Corporal Chris Marr prepared a video message for his loved ones during the Wings' Military Welcome segment Saturday against Pittsburgh.

While Marr's parents, Brian and Lisa, along with his girlfriend Escely Arias watched the message, Marr snuck up behind them. With tears in his eyes, he hugged his parents and eventually got down on one knee and proposed to Arias.

She said yes as the crowd roared.

Marr says his dad helped him prepare the message and took care of the details. "It was perfect," said Marr.

"I'm speechless," Arias told FOX 2 following the proposal.

Marr returned home after 7 months stationed at Kings Bay, Georgia.
