Man killed after drunken argument on Detroit's east side

(WJBK) -

Police say Reginald Swanson, 72, was shot and killed by his friend. The two had just gotten into a drunken altercation moments before, according to the victim's roommate, William Lee.

Swanson was drinking at a home on the 6000 block of Barrett in Detroit Friday night when the argument is said to have started. The homeowner allegedly shot Swanson with a rifle that he kept upstairs.

"My heart's broken, everybody that knows the family heart's broken. It's a senseless killing, senseless murder, and ... we're reeling right now - we're trying to understand why. That's the most important thing. Why? Why should a life be gone over nothing?" asks Lee.

The homeowner is in jail now.

Lee tells Fox 2 someone later broke into the home Sunday night and removed several items from inside.
