Caught On Video: Armed Robbers Shoot Store Clerk

WEST OAK LANE -

The Philadelphia Police Department's Northwest Detectives Division is looking to identify the suspects for a robbery/shooting in Ogontz.

They burst through the front door of the 7-Eleven on Stenton Avenue in West Oak Lane just after 4:15 am Tuesday morning with their guns drawn and quickly announced a robbery.

"The people working in these stores are just trying to make a couple bucks working the midnight tour. This is a horrible thing to do at Christmas time," said Lt. George McClay of Northwest Detectives.

Surveillance cameras were rolling as the two masked gunman ordered the clerk to hand over the money and pistol whipped a woman in the store when she wouldn't let them behind the counter. The clerk secretly pushed a panic alarm and tried to delay the robbers for a couple of minutes. When the gunmen got frustrated, police say one opened fire on the clerk.

"They're not hesitant to shoot anybody. They want money," McClay told FOX 29.

The clerk was struck once in the leg as the gunmen fled the store. The victim was taken to Einstein Medical Center. The suspects ran to a getaway car parked on Gratz Street, just around the corner.

"There's a silver Ford product that's occupied by other people that they get into," McClay explained.

The shooting upset customers who flocked to the 7-Eleven Tuesday to buy Mega Millions jackpot tickets. Isaiah Johnson says this store serves his community.

"It's unfortunate. This is a community store, this is all good people so I hope he gets better," Johnson said.

Police say this store has been robbed three times in the past couple of months. 7-Eleven is offering a $5,000 reward for an arrest. Detectives say robbers expecting a big pay day here will be disappointed.

"That's not the place to rob. These stores, at night time, they have policies. There's no money in these stores," McClay added.

Detectives did recover some fingerprints from the store counter. The getaway car is described as a silver Ford Taurus or Crown Victoria. The shooting victim is expected to survive.

The Citizens Crime Commission is also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects responsible for this robbery/shooting.If you see these suspects, do not approach them, police say contact 911 immediately. NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
