A Detroit family says they've been threatened by their daughter's alleged killer. It was a brutal murder that happened right in front of a child. In fact, the family says when police came and asked what happened it was the 3 year old who said 'Daddy killed mommy.'

"I love you. I miss you. I want to hold you." Instead, Brenda Price can only hold a picture of her daughter, 21-year-old April Carter. She was killed Sunday. Family says her death was at the hands of her boyfriend who was angry that she wanted a night out.

"He shot her in her back, in her stomach, in her chest and on her side," Price tells us.

The couple's 3-year-old son was in the room when the gun went off. His childhood innocence helped police crack the case.

"Police interviewed him, they asked 'Who shot your mother?' and he said his daddy," says James Carter, April's brother.

After the murder things took a dark turn. April's mother says she was tormented by her daughter's killer, a friend to the family since he was 12 years old. She says he was telling everyone who would listen to give him back his son and to keep their mouths shut.

"He was calling, telling my mom he was going to kill her, kill my sisters, you know, just wanted to do more harm. And, like we told him, you can't hurt us no more. You already hurt us enough. What more can you do?" James says. He continues, "He came back to try to take my nephew so they had to move my sister, her boyfriend and the baby to protective custody."

"He told her, 'If I can't have you nobody else will.' And he meant it," Price says.

April's boyfriend is in police custody waiting to be arraigned.

Meanwhile, the family is struggling to pay funeral costs just days before Christmas and explaining to the baby that his mother will never come home again and, if they have it their way, his father won't either.

"You rot in Hell! Because the Devil will come get you because you're not going up there with her," Price says.

If you would like to make a donation to the family to help cover funeral costs you can do so at any Comerica Bank. The fund is set up under the name 'April Carter Assistance' account.
