DETROIT (WJBK) -- Police say a DTE worker was shot multiple times outside his home near Eight Mile and Livernois Wednesday.

The 48-year-old man was warming up his work van when a neighbor says a car pulled up and opened fire. Neighbors say they heard five shots. The victim, whose name has not been released, was struck in the head, the chest and the arm. DTE officials say he was transported to DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

"When I got to the kitchen I heard five shots. I then heard a vehicle that sounded like it was speeding away towards Eight Mile," remembers neighbor Kevin Marchese.

He heard the gunfire around 7 a.m. Wednesday on Warrington Street. Another neighbor saw the 48-year-old DTE worker, who was shot, fall to the ground.

"He said that he seen [sic] the man wandering towards Eight Mile then turning back towards his house - he was probably in shock from being shot - then turned back towards his house and keeled over on the sidewalk," says Marchese.

That man who keeled over had been shot in the head and chest. He lives here and was outside in his van when someone opened fire.

"He was warming up his car to go to work and the neighbors and the wife heard several shots," says Capt. Ken Balinski of Detroit Police. He continues, "And then a black car speeding south down Warrington, and that's all we have right now."

Investigators have not identified a motive yet but Fox 2 has learned someone allegedly harassed him just last week, followed him and threatened to kill him when he disconnected their gas. Police are asking that the victim's name not be released while they investigate this brutal crime. The victim is in very critical condition.

He is a longtime DTE worker and was formerly featured in a TV spot for the company. His brother serves on the Detroit Police Department. The victim is a father and friend to many. Neighbors say he's a hard worker and very community oriented, and helped everybody in the area.

"He's a great guy. He does everything to help the neighbors. He's always helping us with our kids' events at the park that we have up here. So, it's just very sad and I'm just praying that he'll be okay," Maria Dickerson, president of the Neighborhood Association.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detroit police.
