NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - The boil water advisory for downtown Jersey City following at least two water main breaks this week was lifted Friday morning.

A water main ruptured on Coles Street between 3rd and 4th Streets on Thursday.

The break to a 20-inch main at Communipaw Avenue and Berry Lane was repaired by late Thursday  morning.

A day earlier, a water main break left the downtown area without water and resulted in the early dismissal of students and staff at several local schools.

City workers and United Water isolated the leak below Grand Street and Grove Street.

Mayor Steven Fulop said via Twitter that it appeared the problem was with an interconnect vale, a 36-inch water main and a 24-inch water main.

Residents were advised to boil water for one minute for drinking, cooking, baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks feeding pets and all other consumption.

Water does not need to be boiled for showering, washing dishes or clothes.
