Man Arrested For Using Alligator To Purchase Beer

Posted: Updated:

A Florida man does something very unusual to get himself a beer!

Instead of getting his cold one, he got himself arrested. Police say Fernando Aguilera asked a store owner to make a trade his alligator for a 12 pack of beer.

Surveillance footage shows him in the convenience as he's holding the four-foot alligator and trying to make the deal.

One of the other customers called 911 which store owner Javier Herrera was thankful for.

"I was scared. It's the first time that I see somebody with that kind of animal in the store," Herrera said. "This guy is crazy!"

Police say the alligator was unharmed and released back into the wild. Aguilera was arrested and charged with possessing, illegally taking and attempting to sell an alligator. He faces a penalty of up to six months in jail and a $500 fine.
