Some Holiday Deliveries Not Made

Posted: Updated:

Some holiday packages didn't make it in time to go under the tree for Christmas! UPS and Fed-Ex had some delivery problems and some very upset customers. So what happened? And what's being done about it?

FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce joins us from outside the UPS in South Philadelphia.

A day late and a package short, many people across the country and here in the Delaware Valley are still waiting for deliveries that should've been under the Christmas tree yesterday.

Angelica Ciarrocchi of South Philadelphia says she paid a premium to expedite a gift to her grandson in Florida two weeks ago. She says it should've arrived last week but is still missing in transit. A frustrated Ciarrocchi is hoping for a shipping refund.

"Why do they make people pay extra money if they know they're overloaded, because you go through all of the trouble of paying for things ahead of time," Ciarrocchi said.

She is not alone. Delays at FedEx and ups are being blamed on bad weather and an overloaded system--thanks to fewer shopping days this year, an increase in online shopping and lots of procrastinators.

"They said they could get it to me the next day and I was looking for it, forward to was a little disappointing when it didn't come," Mark Robinson of West Philadelphia said.

A FedEx spokesperson defends its holiday service saying it experienced no major delays, but they were prepared to work with customers and handle isolated incidents. UPS issued a statement saying, "UPS experienced heavy holiday volume and is making every effort to get packages to their destination as quickly as possible."
