Pay-by-app parking coming to NYC in 2015

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The muni meter is going digital. You will be able to pay for parking with an app on your phone. It's been successful in other cities, and has gone through a pilot program on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx since April.

Paying for city parking, yes there is an app for that too: Just put in your credit card number and the number of the nearest muni meter. No need for change or even a credit card swipe.

On Arthur Avenue in the Bronx some motorists say the best part is that you can add time remotely. Business owners say it's helped curb parking tickets.

Several companies make these parking apps. The city is seeking a vendor.

If an iced coffee from Dunkin' Donuts is part of your afternoon routine, expect a nudge to buy a cookie or doughnut you didn't plan on. Dunkin' Brands CEO Nigel Travis said in a phone interview Thursday that the company is pushing to get its cashiers to "upsell" to afternoon customers. It's part of an effort to increase sales after stores have emptied out after the morning rush.
