If you've been drinking, service will get you and your car home safely

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

As people decide what to do New Year's Eve, there is one thing no one should do: drink and drive. To curb drunken driving in New York City, the New York Federation of Taxi Drivers has started something called Operation Red Nose, similar to programs in Canada and Great Britain.

New York City's program started December 22.

Fernando Mateo, president of the federation, explains that a company called Hi-Class Car Service makes the pickups. You simply call the number and make arrangements. The car comes with an extra driver to drive your car home.

Mateo says about 650 rides have been given since the program started.

There is a catch, if you want to call it that. It costs double the normal fare. Still, it beats getting your car towed, ticketed and, of course, driving drunk, getting arrested or worse, killing someone.

If you need a ride, call 212-926-1111.
