One dead, one injured in shooting on I-96

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

One person is dead, a second victim is injured after a shooting Sunday on Schaefer at I-96 on Detroit's west side.

Someone in a car opened fire on two men in another car. One man was killed. The man sitting next to the deceased victim was wounded. The car that was shot up crashed through a catch fence along the freeway and began heading east in the westbound lanes. Detroit police responded quickly and saw the victim's car going the wrong way on I-96. Many witnesses also told police they saw the entire wild mid-day shooting scene.

The shooter's car is described as a black Lexus or Audi with silver trim. When police safely stopped the victim's car on I-96 the wounded man was rushed to Sinai Grace Hospital. His condition is not known. The expressway was closed while the Medical Examiner preserved evidence and recovered the body of the deceased victim.

    The victim of a hit and run accident in Manhattan six weeks ago has died. Charity Hicks had been in a coma since being hit by a car at a bus stop on 10th Avenue May 31st. Hicks was a community activist from Detroit who helped start the anti-water shut off movement.
