Habits To Have With Kids

As a parent, maybe this year your New Year's resolution is to spend more time with your kids.

But that can be kind of a cop out if you don't set specific goals for you and your family.

Instead of telling yourself, "I want to be a better mom," or "I want to spend more quality time with my kids," you need a plan.

Some experts made a list of easy things you can do right now, starting today, to bring your family closer.

FOX 29's Karen Hepp reported that the items on the list were:

Express gratitude together

This is easy to bring into your bed-time routine. Take a few minutes to ask your kids what they're grateful for before bed and encourage them to talk about non-material things. Once a week, everyone writes down one thing they're grateful for, put them in a jar, and go over them at the end of the year.

Explore your city

Make an effort to learn more about your home-town, and make a list with your kids of sights you'd like to see.

Start a volunteer project

This has a positive impact on your community, your mind, and your body. Doing good gives your kids a sense of pride and accomplishment, and it encourages them to think about causes and how they can help others.

Learn about money

It's never too early to start teaching kids the importance of saving. Make an effort to pay for things in cash to teach your kids about money. Get them a piggy bank so they can start saving for something they want.
