Serial Burglar Using Rock To Break In Sought In West Philly

Posted: Updated:

Philadelphia police are hoping to stop a serial burglar before he strikes again.

The incidents are happening in West Philadelphia and, as FOX 29's Shawnette Wilson reports, his technique is all caught on camera.

Surveillance video shows a male suspect ride up to Mill Creek Tavern at 4200 Chester Avenue on a bike. He uses a rock to break the front window. Once inside, the burglar paces around the bar before trying to break into the register.

Police say he made off with only loose change and maybe a bottle of Whiskey.

"It's a major inconvenience," said Larry Hackett. He manages the Mill Creek Tavern.

Hackett says it happened just after 5 a.m. New Year's Day when they were closed.

"We got a broken window that is $2,000 to repair," said Hackett who also says, "From what I've been told there's 3 or 4 other places that have also been broken into."

Police say the Fiesta Pizza Restaurant on Baltimore Avenue is one of them and they believe the same guy is behind it.

Surveillance video from the pizza place shows the suspect breaking in at 4:30 a.m. on Christmas. This time he's walking but uses the same technique. He has a rock or brick that in just a few tries breaks the window.

Once inside, the suspect is seen slamming the register on the floor several times to break it before taking a tray of cash.

"Knowing that he's out there breaking into other places is not a good thing," said Hackett.

If you have any information about either burglary call Southwest Detectives at 215-686-3183.
