Another Red Flag Warning This Weekend

Another Red Flag Warning This Weekend

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (FOX 11 / CNS) - Wind gusts up to 55 miles per hour are possible from the
Hollywood Hills west to Malibu after midnight tonight, and the National Weather Service today issued another Red Flag Warning for gusty desert winds and very low humidity.

"We have dry conditions and strong winds -- and we have relative humidity below 15 percent -- basically dry and warm," said Meteorologist Scott Sukup of the National Weather Service. "If you see smoke or smell smoke call authorities."

Sukup said much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties will experience gusty northeast winds and very low humidities from late tonight through Monday. The Red Flag Warning is expected to be lifted by 4 p.m. Monday.

During that time, wind gusts are expected to peak between 45 and 55 miles per hour across the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and in wind-prone inland valley areas. The sharp increase in offshore winds overnight will result in a rapid lowering of humidities, likely falling below 15 percent in many areas after midnight, according to the National Weather Service.

Also, widespread single-digit humidity readings will likely occur by Sunday morning, continuing through Monday as a result of a combination of gusty northeast winds.

Offshore winds are expected to weaken later Monday afternoon, with onshore winds likely to return along the coast, according to the National Weather Service. Warm and very dry conditions will linger into Monday afternoon and evening.

Sukup advised taking standard precautions: "And make sure your (home's) gutters are clean."
