Mayor Emanuel: CPS closure is the best for the children

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

School was out on Monday for Chicago Public School students, and tomorrow will mark a second day in a row that CPS will be closed.

It's early in the cold winter weather season and already CPS officials are forced to use two of the five allotted emergency closing days.

Days that the students may have to make up in the spring.

CPS Chief Barbara Bryd-Bennet said that decision is best for the children. Mayor Rahm Emanuel also stood behind the decision to close.

"I'm confident that this decision is in the best interest of our children and their families," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said about the decision to close for a second day.

Yet, while it might be a good decision for the kids to stay home, warm and inside, some parents said they'd rather take them to school so they can go to work.

For those parents, it may mean the decision between not going to work, and subsequently losing money, or working but having no child care.

Despite these struggles, most all stand behind CPS' decision to close and the schools will be closed again all day Tuesday.
