Parents Camp Out In TX In Freezing Weather For Their Kids

Parents in Plano, Texas camped out in freezing temperatures to get their children into a better school.

The parents are sleeping out in the cold, getting as low as 16 degrees at some points, so that they could be among the first people at the school district's headquarters to submit transfers for their children.

"The winds…picked up yesterday[.] You can stay in the cold, but the winds will get to you. Getting pretty cold there," said one parent.

The district will begin accepting transfer applications on Saturday, So more and more parents will camp out as it gets closer. If you ask any of these parents, they will tell you that anything is worth it for the kids.

We have been sleeping here, switching with our partners, and making sure that some body is here lining up...But everybody is putting their name on the arm here so that nobody can get in front of you," said another parent. "You want to make sure that they go to their school. And they have their friends in their old school. So that's kind of a motivating factor to make sure kid is happy. And of course you love your kids."

Though camping out is common for parents around this time, it is not usual for it to be this cold.

"Actually, this crowd is smaller than last year," said another parent. Relief could be on the way, temperatures in Plano will be back into the 60s by the end of the week.
