JASPER, Ga. -

A fire ripped through and destroyed a Pickens County church building on Saturday evening.

The fire started just before 5:30 p.m. according to Gospel Outreach Church of North Georgia pastor Jerry Stewart. The church, which was housed in the Old Bargain Barn on Georgia Highway 53, was a total loss.

Fire crews from Cherokee and Gilmer counties came to assist the Pickens County Fire Department in fighting the fire. The Canton Fire Department sent a ladder unit to the scene as well.

The congregation met for their normal Sunday services at the Chamber of Commerce in downtown Jasper on Sunday morning.

No word on the possible cause of the fire.

Officials tell FOX 5 News that no one was injured in the fire.

The church offers a soup kitchen as well as a food bank ministry. The programs are canceled for this Tuesday, but members are working to find another location. They are asking for donations as well to restock those lost in the fire. If you wish to donate call Sonlight Ministries at 770-893-9049.
