Survey: Michigan license plate design ranks near bottom

Posted: Updated:

(WJBK) -- It's the great plate debate that leaves Michigan near the bottom of the list.

Carinsurance.com conducted a poll of the best and worst license plates in America, and after more than 4,000 responses, Michigan ranked No. 50 out of a possible 51 places (Washington DC was included). Voters thought the Pure Michigan white plate had little appeal.

But, the Great Lakes state was not dead last. That honor went to Delaware.

The best? That title goes to Wyoming. The state has had the same license plate since 1918 and features a cowboy riding a bucking bronco with a snow-capped mountain in the background.

Top 5:
1. Wyoming
2. Utah
3. Alabama
4. Arizona
5. South Carolina

Bottom 5:
51. Delaware
50. Michigan
49. Virginia
48. New York
47. Arkansas
