The son of the man who was found buried in his own Lake County backyard is now charged with second degree murder.
Detectives say they charged 28-year-old Jesse Jordan Tuesday morning in connection with the investigation into the death of Jordan's father, Jesse Wachter.
Officials say this charge was added to drug charges he already faces in jail.
Jordan's girlfriend Jessica Thigpen is also still in custody on the initial drug charges.
Detectives are not saying how Wachter died, but they are calling his death a homicide. They added that several bags of mulch were used to cover his body.
"It's like a nightmare you can't wake up from," said Wachter's brother, Mark. Mark said his oldest brother, who was a 15-year veteran who fought in Vietnam, didn't deserve to end up in a shallow grave.
"It's horrible," Wachter said, "I'm trying not to think too much about it."
Lake County Sheriff's deputies exhumed Wachter's body on Sunday, after neighbors reported that he had been missing and that someone was taking items from his home. According to an arrest affidavit, it was his Jordan.
When deputies arrived, they said they found Jordan Thigpen, leaving with a truckload of his Wachter's belongings.
According to deputies, Jordan and Thigpen had morphine and pills on them.
