BROOKHAVEN, Ga. -

Authorities are warning about a man posing as a power company worker and threatening to shut off electricity unless he's paid.

Police said a man pretended to be a Georgia Power worker entered the Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub in Brookhaven during the dinner rush and demanded $500.

"He came in and flashed a badge that said Georgia Power, had a Georgia Power uniform, also had a Georgia Power utility truck parked right out front," said John Blaylock, the general manager of the pub.

The man gave the restaurant workers a phone number that did not match Georgia Power's.

Brookhaven police said that Georgia Power officials confirmed the scam has been going on around town. They said don't do anything until you contact Georgia Power.

Georgia Power said that it doesn't collect past due accounts on-site, nor do they charge for hardware or equipment.
