The Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is the largest MLK Day event in the country. More than 115,000 volunteers of all ages participated in 1,600 service project in 2013 and this year is expected to be even bigger. VisitPhilly has provided a list of service projects happening this year so you can honor the legacy of Dr. King!

Sharing the Heritage Celebration at the African American Museum in Philadelphia

Enjoy free admission to the African American Museum all day and celebrate with special events and activities including hands-on service projects, a Community Celebration with live performances, readings and more from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Arts & Service Workshop at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

The Philadelphia Museum of Art will be opening its doors Monday for a day-long Arts & Service Workshop featuring activities for all ages. Arts and crafts created will be donated local service organizations while The Camden Sophisticated Sisters & The Distinguished Brothers of CSS will provide live entertainment.

Day of Service at the National Constitution Center

The National Constitution Center will honor Martin Luther King Jr. with a day-long commemoration on Monday, January 20. Throughout the day, enjoy $5 admission to the museum and access to special service projects, performances and activities. The celebration is part of the National Constitution Center's new series of Macy's Family Days at the Constitution Center, courtesy of The Macy's Foundation.

Martin Luther King Weekend at Eastern State Penitentiary

Eastern State Penitentiary honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day with special readings of King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" during the holiday weekend. Listen to excerpts read from Dr. King's letter–written 50 years ago three times a day on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. New this year, children ages 7-12 can create artwork in response to the letter from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day. The events are free and open to the public. Free tickets are available online here or at the door subject to availability.

The Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute is honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with showings of his iconic "I Have A Dream" on the walls of Franklin Hall at the top of every hour. Additional events include an "African American Scientists Scavenger Hunt" and the creation of a wall of dreams.

MLK Family Day at the National Museum of American Jewish History

Admission to the National Museum of American Jewish History will be free all day as the museum commemorates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Have your words turned into colorful art by Philadelphia muralists and take part in a special screening of the documentary From Swastika to Jim Crow with filmmaker Steve Fischler at 2 p.m.

The Philadelphia Orchestra's Free Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Concert

Come and celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with The Philadelphia Orchestra. Volunteers will be collecting school supplies to be donated to local public schools during the free community concert. Tickets are first-come, first-serve and limited to four tickets per person.

    Summer is not over just yet!  90 degree temperatures will take us into September.  Much of the week ahead is looking hot with temps in the 90's and upper 80's.

    There is a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday.

    Unsettled weather will continue through Labor Day with temperatures soaring in the 90's.  We aren't looking at a washout but there will be pop up showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening on Monday.
